Jesus Never Said You Suck: A Freedom Day Message for Every Wounded Soul

You weren't born bad. You were born breathtaking.
You don't chase goodness. You carry it.
A Freedom Day message for every wounded soul
It took me 51 years to figure this out.
Because for most of my life, people kept telling me how bad I sucked.
Especially… hell, mostly the church.
I was told I was broken.
That something inside me was fundamentally flawed.
That God tolerated me — but didn't really like me.
And if I could just behave — be good enough, clean enough, quiet enough —
Then maybe God would love me more.
Then maybe I'd finally see good things show up in my life.
So you know what I did?
I said F it all.
And I don't think I'm alone.
🔥 Identity Isn't a Buzzword — It's a Battleground
I don't know if you've ever experienced this… but I did.
"Sean, you're too much."
"Sean, you're not enough."
"Sean, why can't you be more like…?"
The assault was nonstop.
And I never realized the whole time…
The enemy wasn't attacking my behavior. He was attacking my identity.
And y'all, he's doing it to you too.
Because if the enemy can convince you of a false identity, he wins.
You'll live your whole life thinking you're broken…
And never step into the fullness of who you really are:
✝️ Deeply loved by God. UNCONDITIONALLY.
Even if you suck occasionally. (Don't worry, I do too. LOL.)
💣 You Were Told You Suck. I'm Here to Tell You the Truth.
So if you've spent years hearing that you're not good enough —
By the church.
By family.
By exes, leaders, pastors, or even your own thoughts —
I'm here to drop some FREEDOM in your lap this Fourth of July weekend.
💥 GOD. IS. LOVE.
💥 GOD. IS. GOOD.
💥 And YOU are made in His image and likeness.
📖 What the Bible Actually Says
The church has tried to convince you that you're bad.
That God can't accept you.
That there's this long checklist of things you gotta do to be loved or blessed.
BULLSH*T.
Here's how the real story opens:
"God saw all that He had made, and behold — it was very good."
(Genesis 1:31)
Y'all catch that?
God made you… and GOD SAID.
Not a church.
Not a person.
Not a pastor.
Not your ex.
Not the voice in your head.
GOD SAID:
✨ You are very good.
✨ You — yes, YOU — are VERY good.
And I can feel it even now — somebody's shame just fell off.
Because you didn't need anyone else's approval to be loved.
God already gave it.
That's the origin story.
Not sin.
Not shame.
Not "you suck."
It starts with "you are good."
If God is GOOD — and you were made in His image —
Then YOU. ARE. GOOD.
Yeah, you might do some dumbass things.
(I know I do — insert massive eye roll here 🙄)
But your core identity? The part God handcrafted Himself?
That part is GOOD. VERY GOOD.
But what about sin? Isn't that what separated us from God?
That's what religion told you.
But go back and read the story for yourself.
When Adam and Eve messed up, God didn't storm in with fire and fury.
He came looking for them.
Not to punish them…
But to cover them.
To clothe their shame.
They were the ones hiding — not God.
Because it wasn't sin that made them run.
It was shame.
And still, God came close.
Even in their brokenness.
Even in their failure.
The first act of redemption in human history was God saying:
"You don't have to hide. I'm still here. I'm still covering you."
That doesn't sound like a God who's disgusted with you.
That sounds like a Father who refuses to leave you in your shame.
💣 HEBREW DEEP DIVE: "Very Good" Is a Holy Mic Drop
In Hebrew, Genesis 1:31 reads:
"וַיַּרְא אֱלֹהִים אֶת־כָּל אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה וְהִנֵּה־טוֹב מְאֹד"
(Vayar Elohim et kol asher asah, vehineh tov me'od)
Let's break it down:
Tov (טוֹב) = Good. But not just "decent." This means pleasing, excellent, rich, complete, beautiful, valuable, and life-giving.
Me'od (מְאֹד) = Intensely, exceedingly, abundantly, forcefully.
Put that together and it's like God stepped back, looked at everything — including YOU — and said:
"THIS. IS. INSANELY GOOD."
"This is breathtaking. This is overflowing with beauty and worth."
So when religion told you you were a problem…
God's original language called you a masterpiece.
You weren't born into shame.
You were born into glory.
That "very good" label?
It came before any sin, any fall, or any failure.
So the next time you doubt your worth —
Remember the God of the universe looked at you and said:
🔥 That one? That's my favorite work of art.
🧠 Neurologically Speaking…
So about 10 years ago, I started diving deep into neuroscience. And I'm not gonna lie — I got obsessed. Because here's the deal:
If you don't understand how your brain works, you'll never fully understand why you do what you do — or how to actually change it.
You can pray, fast, and white-knuckle your way through life all you want…
But if your mind isn't renewed, you're still stuck.
That's why Paul said this:
"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…"
— Romans 12:2
🧨 Renewing your mind is the secret to life.
It's the blueprint.
It's the gateway to transformation.
It's the hinge between your current reality and Heaven's reality.
It's how your life stops running on fear… and starts running on TRUTH.
Now listen closely:
Paul didn't say, "Be transformed by behaving better."
He said, "Be transformed by renewing your mind."
That means:
You don't change your life by changing your behavior.
You change your life by changing your beliefs.
🧠 Let's break this down practically + spiritually…
Here's the thing — renewing your mind isn't just about quoting Bible verses.
Do I believe the Word of God is powerful? YES.
Do I believe meditating on truth can change your life? 100%.
BUT…
Most people were never taught this:
Every thought matters.
Every thought builds a neural pathway.
Every thought either rewires your brain for truth…
Or reinforces a lie.
🔥 When you think a thought, neurons fire and wire together.
Those thoughts begin shaping how you feel, how you act, and how you live.
And get this:
If you stop thinking a thought (say, "I'm not worthy" or "I'm broken"), the brain actually begins to prune that neural connection.
It dies off.
Let that hit.
Your brain physically restructures based on the thoughts you keep… and the ones you reject.
So when Paul said "renew your mind," he wasn't just giving us a spiritual discipline — he was giving us a neurobiological KEY.
A full-on divine upgrade protocol for your brain.
💡 Now let's go deeper.
Paul was raised a Hebrew scholar. He knew what he was doing when he chose that word "mind."
In the Greek, the word "mind" here is nous (νοῦς) — and it means your mental capacity for perception, reasoning, moral reflection, and spiritual understanding.
He wasn't saying, "Go read your Bible and behave."
He was saying, "Train your BRAIN to think like Heaven."
Now let's bring in another misunderstood verse that backs this all up:
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."
— Proverbs 4:23
Most people think "heart" here means feelings or emotions.
But in Hebrew, the word is lev (לֵב) — and it actually means:
🧠 your thoughts, your will, and your inner decision-making center.
HELLO.
This is the mic drop moment:
God is literally saying, "Guard your thoughts. Guard your focus. Guard what you believe."
Why?
Because everything else in your life flows from it.
🌪️ In today's noisy world, most people are letting TikTok or Instagram tell them who they are.
They're building identity off of algorithms and filters and highlight reels.
No wonder they feel lost.
But if you want to walk in freedom?
You've got to know what GOD says about you:
You are GOOD.
You are VALUABLE.
You are LOVED.
You are MADE IN HIS IMAGE.
Now take that thought…
And wire it in.
Over and over.
Until Heaven becomes your default operating system.
BOOM. 💥
🔥 And this is where religion starts to tremble…
Because what I just told you about neuroscience?
Jesus lived it long before the brain scan ever proved it.
He didn't shame people into change.
He made them feel safe enough to remember who they were.
Let me show you what I mean…
✝️ Jesus Never Shamed the Broken
Not once.
He didn't roll up on the woman caught in adultery and say,
"You disgust Me."
He said:
"Where are your accusers?"
"Neither do I condemn you."
"Go, and sin no more."
He didn't ignore her behavior — but He didn't define her by it either.
He restored her identity first.
Because your behavior doesn't define your value.
Your Creator already did that.
But if you're still not convinced God's not mad at you… let me introduce you to one of the most messed-up, miracle-working men in the Bible.
🔥 Let's Talk About Moses for a Minute
You ever feel like you've messed up too bad to be used by God?
Let me introduce you to Moses.
This man killed someone. Then ran off into the wilderness, crippled by shame.
And yet — God didn't cancel him.
God called him.
He lit a bush on fire and said,
"Moses… I'm not done with you."
And Moses — still carrying the weight of what he'd done — literally said,
"God, show me Your glory. I need to see who You really are."
And do you know how God responded?
"I will cause all my GOODNESS to pass before you…"
— Exodus 33:19
🔥 Don't miss this.
God didn't say:
"I'll show you My wrath."
He didn't say:
"I'll show you My judgment."
He said:
"You want to know My glory? My glory… is My GOODNESS."
The church told you God is mostly mad.
But Moses — who spoke to God like a friend — discovered something deeper.
That even after murder, even after running, even in the middle of shame…
God wanted Moses to know: My goodness is greater than your guilt.
💥 So if Moses could murder a man and still be met with GOODNESS…
You — who've doubted, stumbled, and felt unworthy — are not disqualified.
You are still called.
You are still chosen.
You are still covered in goodness and glory.
👑 You Were Never the Problem
Religion may have told you God was disappointed in you.
But Jesus said:
"If you've seen Me… you've seen the Father."
— John 14:9
And what did Jesus do?
He embraced the outcasts.
He restored shame-covered people.
He didn't yell "sinner" — He whispered "son, and daughter"
You're not defined by your worst moment.
You're not chained to your past.
The enemy doesn't fear your past.
He fears you remembering who you are.
Because once you realize you carry the nature of God…
You become dangerous to every lie that's ever tried to hold you down.
🙌 But Wait… Aren't We All Just Sinners?
Some of y'all might be getting uncomfortable right now.
You're thinking:
"But we're all sinners! That's why we need Jesus!"
And I hear you.
But listen:
You weren't born bad.
You were born in the image of a GOOD God.
Yes — sin distorted things.
Yes — we fall short.
But Jesus didn't die to make you good.
He died to restore the goodness that was always part of your original design.
Ever bought a knockoff Rolex before? I have. Multiple times.
Usually on the streets of Chinatown in NYC.
Here's the deal: they suck.
They're cheap, they break within a few weeks, and yeah, you only paid $50 bucks — but you also can't expect a $10,000 watch to function like the real thing when it's fake.
Most of us are walking through life thinking we're a $50 knockoff Rolex…
When Jesus came to say:
"Baby, you're the real thing."
You've just been believing a lie.
He didn't come because you were worthless.
He came because you were priceless.
You weren't some secondhand clearance item.
You were handcrafted by Heaven.
He came to wake you up to what religion made you forget:
You're already loved.
You already belong.
And you carry the image of your Father.
Let me say that one more time for the people in the back,
YOU CARRY THE IMAGE OF YOUR FATHER GOD!
Jesus didn't die to change God's mind about you.
He came to change your mind about God.
🕊️ This Is Your Freedom Day
Today's not just about fireworks and flags.
It's about your soul finally taking a breath.
💥 Freedom from shame.
💥 Freedom from bad theology.
💥 Freedom from the lie that said you had to earn what was already yours.
You're not too far gone.
You're not disqualified.
You're not broken.
You were just misinformed.
And now… you know the truth.
🙏 Final Word
You don't need to earn what God already placed inside you.
You don't need to hustle your way into His arms.
You were made good.
Designed in love.
Covered by grace.
And filled with power.
You don't chase goodness. You carry it.
And the One who made you… is calling you home.
If this message rocked you, it's because the truth was always buried in you.
And if you're ready to finally come home to who God says you are…
